The Saturday morning Coffee Concerts showcase the talent of young musicians from all over the county. It is an opportunity for them to experience performing in front of a paying public.
One of the organizers of FVM is concert pianist, Dr Marlene Bowden. She selects, enthuses and accompanies the young artists. Among other things, she has been the accompanist for Imerys Mid-Cornwall Male Choir since 2008 and she runs the annual Rotary Young Musicians' Competition.
The four highly impressive young musicians who came from all over Cornwall to perform in 2017 were clarinettist Fred Bareham, flutist Katie Shaw, pianist Luke James, who is just eleven years old, and Cornet player, Lia Teague.
This opportunity to perform in public was greatly appreciated by the young musicians themselves, their families and the audience.
“I must warmly congratulate you on all your work to make the Music Festival such a success. We never cease to be amazed by the talent that comes to Fowey and know how you are now encouraging so much young home grown talent.”
“The concert this morning was such a treat, enormous thanks to the organisers as well as to the wonderful talents of the young musicians. It was a privilege to hear them all.”
“My sincere congratulations to all of the participants and Marlene Bowden especially for a magical morning last Saturday....”
“I came to the two Saturday concerts both of which were thoroughly enjoyable! Thankyou so much for taking on all the organisation that must have been involved in bringing such joy to Fowey.”
