The south west of England's classical music festival
Third edition: September 15th and 16th 2017
The inaugural Fowey Valley Music festival in September 2015 filled the beautiful coastal town of Fowey in Cornwall with world-class classical music, complementing the Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature held annually in May. Though a festival featuring musicians of international calibre was something completely new for the town, it has already become an eagerly awaited fixture on the annual calendar. 2017 sees the third edition of the festival.Details of artists and programme to follow in due course. Tickets will be available from mid-June.
For those who can’t wait till September, Fowey Valley Music is organizing an event in association with the Fowey Festival. On the evening of Thursday May 11th, Sir Karl Jenkins, who was knighted in 2015 for his contribution to music, will be in conversation with the Rev. Philip de Grey-Warter. Karl Jenkins began his career as a jazz musician, working with Ronnie Scott and other luminaries of the jazz world, before joining Soft Machine, the seminal 70s rock band, and composing some tracks of their many albums. These days he is in such demand as a composer of contemporary classical music as well as film soundtracks that he has become the world’s most performed living composer.
We will hear sections of Sir Karl’s music on CD and Dr Marlene Bowden will discuss and play several Pattern and Fantasy Preludes by Lady Carol Jenkins, a composer in her own right. (Bookings via the Fowey Festival’s outlets.).
